Donate Now to Prepare for Ballot Fight against ACA-5!
Dear Friends and Concerned Fellow Californians,
It is high time to pool our financial resources for the ballot fight against ACA-5—NOW! ACA-5 is likely to pass out of the California Legislature on June 24th. Time is against us as we plan for a ballot challenge. Your donation is needed!
Upon deliberations among several leading Asian-American groups (SVCA, AACE, TOC Foundation, CACAOC, AIB2B, HQH, CCCCA, TVAA and SDAAFE Foundation), our coalition officially authorizes San Diego Asian Americans for Equality (SDAAFE Foundation) to accept donations supporting our joint fight against ACA 5. Specifically, the funds raised would be used on attorney fees for the purpose of challenging ACA 5’s ballot title and language, if the bill were to appear on this November’s ballot. You can either

Since this spring, we have connected influential grassroots groups, prominent national organizations and previous forces that facilitated Proposition 209 to form an expansive coalition under the name “Californians for Equal Rights (CFER)” to defend true equality and reject preferential treatment as being promoted by ACA 5. The coalition is led by Mr. Ward Connerly and a prestigious team of scholars, political strategists and community leaders.
The ballot language challenge is a crucial and necessary element in any ballot measure campaign. Both the prop-209 campaign in 1996 and the I-1000 campaign in Washington last year mounted legal challenges as a first step in campaigning. So did many other similar initiatives banning racial preferences in Michigan, Nebraska and other places. We need lawyers with expertise in political campaigns to address and challenge the state attorney general to ensure that ballot title and language are not biased toward the pro-side. All arguments will stay on official records. The ballot campaign’s success will be primarily contingent upon the strength of our ballot legal challenge.
Due to the pandemic, the official registration for our coalition CFER has not yet been processed by the Secretary of State. After a thorough discussion, we have decided to jointly authorize SDAAFE as the only official channel of fundraising for the sole purpose of ballot legal challenge. SDAAFE pledges that all donations received from this day till the conclusion of our joint authorization will be used on the fight against ACA 5. All bank records will be open to the CFER Executive Board.
Our honorable fight against ACA 5 is not only about advancing rights for Americans of Asian descent, it is but also a necessary course of correction for the civil rights movement which has morphed into radicalism. Our slogan is : “Defend Prop. 209. Keep Discrimination Illegal!” We need your support!
Last but not least, while we prepare for the ballot campaign against ACA 5 through fundraising, we still need to reach out to our state senators and submit position letters in opposition of ACA 5. If the proponents fail to gather 27 votes on the upcoming assembly vote because of the public pressure and voices of concern, we can avoid an expensive ballot battle. As such, the CFER coalition and all the endorsing organizations pledge to gladly and promptly return all donations if ACA 5 doesn’t pass the Senate.
